I installed Snow Leopard on this laptop last night. The installation went smoothly, and everything seems a little shinier and faster now. It also freed up about 24 gigs worth of space on this machine. From what I’ve heard, that’s about two to three times what most people are averaging, leading me to believe that I had a lot of unnecessary junk installed.
For all its technical advances, the feature that I’ve found the most compelling and useful is an older one with a number of improvements. The ability to annotate .pdf files in Apple’s Preview application is incredibly useful as a graduate student. Basic annotations, such as highlighting and notes, where around in previous versions, but this version adds self-contained annotation toolbar to the application, as well as rendering improvements with speed up what was already an incredibly snappy application. If the rumors turn out to be true, and Apple drops a touch screen tablet PC on sometime in the near future, features like this would make it an incredibly compelling tool.
