There and Back Again

Whence Come We? What Are We? Whither Go We? – Paul Gauguin

On January 16th, 2009, I’ll be flying from Boston, MA to Reykjavik, Iceland for nine days of adventure. Sadly, and perhaps surprisingly, with Canada notwithstanding1, this will be my first journey outside of the country. The first, hopefully, in series of adventures. I haven’t seen enough of the world to satisfy my wanderlust and I haven’t seen enough of myself to know myself.

Beyond when I arrive and leave, I don’t have any firm plans. A friend has lent me clippings from her trip to sort out things to do (and believe me, there looks to be plenty.) I’d like to see Reykjavik from the top of Hallgrimskirkja and visit Þingvellir. I plan to sit in coffeeshops and bookstores and wander the city and chat with people. I’m told there is wonderful lobster bisque and hotdogs I have to try. I’m going to do WODs with Crossfit Iceland. If at all possible I’d like to put do some winter hiking.

So watch this space next month for photographs and stories, and if you’ve been and have someplace I must see, leave a comment and let me know about it.

1 Sorry guys, you’re just too close to home too count.
